Today I took delivery of a Speedlite Ezy Up Umbrella Softbox, which I purchase on eBay – view product – for just under £60.
It arrived in no time, less than two days, which was a real plus and the main reason I purchased the Speedlite Ezy Up Umbrella Softbox softbox was that they said it was fast to set up.
In the past, I have tried other types that of softbox that you can, or so they say, fold up by twisting them, but I can never seem to get them back into the packet which makes taking them on location a pain.
When I opened the Speedlite Ezy Up Umbrella Softbox, it was set up and working in less than two minutes. I am not kidding you. It works like an umbrella and all you need to do it pop it open, put it on your light stand, and you are ready to shoot.
The Speedlite Ezy Up Umbrella Softbox came with everything you need, less the light stand. There was a carry case, a light stand bracket and some rods with a clamp that help get your Speedlite into the centre of the softbox.
For the price, this is a very handy bit of kit. I am yet to try it out to see how it will perform practically but what I can already say is that Speedlite Ezy Up Umbrella Softbox will be as easy to transport as an umbrella yet offers a different type of lighting.
Mine is set up with one flash gun, a Canon 430 EX II Speedlite, which has a Phottix wireless trigger attached. I think if I try to use a bigger Speedlight like the Yongnuo YN565EX Speedlite with trigger, I may face issues as I do not think the poles will be big enough.
My overall feeling is the Speedlite Ezy Up Umbrella Softbox will be a very useful tool, is easy to transport and set up. If you are thinking of buying one the only thing, you need to get is a light stand, assuming you don’t have one already.
